Application, Offer and Accept

Step 1 - Investigate

  1. Talk to your family, friends and your Lecturers about going abroad.
  2. Let us know you are interested in studying overseas.
  3. Research the country and institution you are interested in going on exchange to by visiting SCU Exchange Partners.
  4. Read the information provided on this site.
  5. Draft a budget. You can download the Endeavour/UMAP/CK Scholarship Application [pdf: 101k]
  6. Plan your academic goals for going abroad.

Step 2 - Attend an Information Session

Check the events calendar for upcoming exchange information session dates.

Step 3 - Apply

  1. Discuss your exchange with your Course Co-ordinator and receive sign off on your Credit Transfer form. If you are planning to study core units, take a detailed course outline from your chosen University to assist your course co-ordinator with assessing equivalencies.
  2. Complete the 2011 SCU Exchange Application Form [pdf: 126k].
  3. Complete the host application form [find your preferred university from Exchange Partners list which includes links to downloadable forms or online applications].
  4. Attach ALL required documents and hand in to the International Office.
  5. If your application is complete and you meet academic requirements, you will be accepted into the SCU International exchange program. We will then send off your application to the Host Institution and await a response. Our partner University will issue a 'letter of offer' and a 'confirmation of enrolment' (CoE) which will then enable you to apply for a Visa.
  6. Research the visa you will require to go abroad, often you are required to have immunisations before your visa will be granted. You will need to plan ahead of time to take into account an immunisation schedule. For students intending to go to the US, you will need to go to Sydney for an interview with the US Consulate to organise your visa (see Passports and Visas section) - this appointment will need to be booked and planned well in advance of travelling.
  7. Apply for your passport.

Step 4 - Wait for a reply from the host institution

  1. Start to investigate airfares, visas, insurance and travel plans [Some useful links to use as a starting point are available].
DO NOT BOOK ANYTHING UNTIL YOU HAVE YOUR ACCEPTANCE.

Step 5 - Acceptance

  1. Once you receive your letter of offer you may need to accept in writing.
  2. Book airfare, travel and medical insurance.
  3. Apply for visa.
  4. Enrol into subject abroad and apply for accommodation if necessary.
  5. OS Help loans and DEST grants will be allocated at this time.

Step 5 - Attend a Pre-Departure Information

  1. Complete the insurance, flight and visa details form.
  2. The International Office will enrol you into exchange electives.
  3. A departure checklist is available. This checklist is included with the SCU Application Form.
